Creating a Coaching Mindset in Your Organization

Module 1: Deep listening

  • “Listen” attentively with your body, eyes, and ears
  • Listen carefully to the words that are spoken, and how
  • Hear the emotion behind the words
  • Pay attention to non-verbal communication
  • Listen to the gentle guidance of your intuition
  • Guided practice in small groups

Module 2: Radical curiosity

  • Ask probing, open-ended questions with no clear “yes” or “no” answer
  • Ask powerful questions that encourage coaches to see the issue differently, leading to an “ah-ha” moment
  • Reframe answers into questions to ensure you understood the answer correctly
  • Again, listen to the gentle guidance of your intuition
  • Leverage the power of silence
  • Guided practice in small groups

Module 3: Practise Empathy

  • Empathy is a critical skill for a coach 
  • The person you are coaching needs to feel:
    • they are in a safe and confidential space
    • they are seen, heard and understood
    • the coach is there to help them
    • the coach’s approach is positive, not judgmental.
  • “Ruthless empathy”
  • When appropriate, how to challenge the person you are coaching (coachee)
  • Guided practice in small groups

Module 4: Relationship with Coachee First

  • Focus on positive paradigm shift, including
    • greater emotional agility and empathy 
    • increased flexibility and openness
    • greater resilience 
    • better decision Making
  • Group discussion and insights

  • Drives autonomy and accountability
