Executive Confidant: It’s Lonely at the Top

Description:
Senior executives often lack an adequate support system. Many feel isolated, with almost no one to talk to openly about the significant business challenges they are facing. They need an insightful, trustworthy and confidential confidante. This is especially true for CEOs. With whom can they discuss their dealings with their direct reports, or with board members? And, to whom can they safely confide in about painful personal issues that are weighing heavily on them?

Approach:

Process:
The program is tailored in terms of content and duration to the specific needs of the client; it is conducted in a safe and confidential environment. Typically, the program comprises 19 sessions over a period of nine months. The first session, the Discovery Session, last normally two hours. The others run for one hour each.

Sessions will be conducted in person, on the phone or via Skype, depending on client preference and feasibility.

Tailored Coaching for Dynamic Leadership

Description:

Approach:

In our experience, we have found a multi-phase approach to be most effective to achieve lasting results in these situations. In the first phase, Dr. Bonar assists clients to “unfreeze” their perceptions of themselves, their management style and their impact on direct reports, other employees and stakeholders. Each client is an individual and no two situations are identical. Therefore, he poses probing, open-ended questions to obtain a clearer understanding of the client and of his or her particular situation. Dr. Bonar conducts a 360 assessment as well.

Phase two: By distilling his observations and the pertinent feedback received from the 360 assessment and sharing it with his client, Dr. Bonar assists them to achieve greater self-awareness. They begin to see themselves as others see them, the positive and the less so. Dr. Bonar then assists his clients to become open to identifying and to articulating new patterns of behaviour – such as being collaborative rather than overly directive.

The last phase of the process requires clients to adopt and to integrate the new patterns of behaviour they have identified together during the coaching process. Dr. Bonar assists them to focus on a positive and compelling vision of the future. For this to be truly effective and lasting, Dr. Bonar uses techniques to assist clients to tap into their latent capabilities to create the change, the success that they are seeking. This helps his clients imagine, visualize and feel how they are going to be different, think differently and act differently going forward. At this stage, they are prepared to make this new image of the future a reality, one step at a time.
