Leadership • Success • Purpose • Network Inaugural Event

The Leadership • Success • Purpose • Network was founded on May 25, 2017, and we held our inaugural event in Ottawa, Ontario, on June 14th.

The aim of our group is to bring business leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs, business coaches and HR professionals together to foster positive, mutually beneficial relationships with colleagues and prospective clients. Participants at our presentation/networking events hear engaging talks on various ways to be successful and fulfilled by cultivating their inner purpose. They have the opportunity to share their experiences and to learn from colleagues. Our events are conducted in an organized, open and relaxed setting where we encourage participants to interact with one another.

Our inaugural speaker was Sandra Sweetman, an internationally acclaimed coach, mentor, workshop leader, author and colleague. She delivered a fascinating talk entitled: Take a Quantum Leap into Your Own Success.

We will be holding presentation/networking events monthly.

Mr Paul Bisson Joins the Bonar Institute


We are pleased to announce that Mr. Paul Bisson has joined the Bonar Institute as an associate.

Mr. Bisson is Chairman of the Board of Directors of CDI (Biotech in Dentistry), Member of the Board of AEGO (Gatineau/Ottawa Executive Airport), Special Advisor to Polymateria Limited, London, UK, (Biodegrable Plastics). He was President, COO and co-founder of CRL Technologies, a leader in aerospace micro-electro optics R&D; and CEO and co-founder of ART Advanced Research Technologies, creator of a medical imaging system (approved in Canada and Europe).

Mr. Bisson studied Leadership and Corporate Governance at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Business Administration. He also taught at the University of Ottawa from 2007 till 2014. He was the recipient of the prestigious Trudeau Medal for his commitment to the community, to the university, and for his business achievements.

Revised Marketing Logo & Slogan Unveiled

The Bonar Institute for Purposeful Leadership is pleased to unveil a new marketing logo:

Over the last year, we have been working hard to cultivate growth opportunities and to continually make doing business with us easy, secure and efficient. To that end, we have translated our website into French. In undertaking this project, however, we have come to believe that the best course of action is to alter our logo and shorten our operating name so as to provide a seamless transition between the two languages. Hencefourth, we operate as Bonar Institute (Institut Bonar en français).

Our company was created out of the desire of its founder and principal, Dr. James de Gaspé Bonar, to promote the highest standards of excellence in corporate leadership. The Bonar Institute is committed to assisting executives to see beyond the ordinary, to identify new possibilities and to embrace the extraordinary for themselves and the organizations that they lead. We offer a broad range of leading-edge programs that are customized to meet the unique needs of our clients.

That said, the legal name of our company has not changed from Bonar Institute for Purposeful Leadership and any payments made to us or mail sent to us should be addressed as such. On our client portal, as well as in invoicing and on administrative documents (contracts, etc.) our official logo will continue to appear, as it reflects the legal name of this company. It will appear like this:

Canada Post Labour Dispute

As a result of a labour dispute between Canada Post and its workers, the crown corporation may impose a lockout on its workers, or a strike by union members may be called.

Because of the uncertainty surrounding this unfortunate development, we ask that all payments made during the duration of any service disruption, be made by credit card.

Adjustment to the Terms of Invoice Payments

Invoices from the Bonar Institute are no longer due on receipt. As part of our ongoing committment to providing our clients with easy, secure and efficient service; we are now allowing for a grace period of 10 days on payments for new invoices. After the 10 day period has elapsed, unpaid balances will be considered overdue.

We hope that this new measure provides clients with greater flexibility and enhances their experience doing business with us.

Credit Card Payments Accepted by the Bonar Institute for Purposeful Leadership

We are pleased to announce that the Bonar Institute for Purposeful Leadership now accepts Visa and Mastercard. Credit card prodcut payment is done through our new invoicing software. Simply click on the link in the invoice email and, if a client has accepted the Client Portal invitation, a copy of their invoice will open in a new tab. From there, all clients have to do is hit pay now and enter their credit card information and billing detals.

In most cases, clients must register for the Client Portal to use a credit card to pay for our services.

In the portal, clients can view and download invoices and statements. They can also pay for services, update contact information and more. A registration email for our portal is generally sent concurrently with our invoices.

Other credit card payment options include, providing their credit card details, in person or over the phone. With that information we will charge the balance of their outstanding invoice.

The Bonar Institute does still accept cheques. Please send them to the address provided on all Bonar Institute invoices.

From our website, tickets to upcoming events can be purchased. Information on upcoming events will be provided at a later date.

We hope that these measures will provide our clients greater convenience when it comes time to pay for our services. As we continue to grow, we will expand investment in projects that make doing business with us easy, secure and efficient.

A Message from the Principal

I am often asked what is purposeful leadership, and why is it the focus of my institute? Based on my work with executives and the review of some of the best thinking on the subject, it has become clear to me that purpose is central to effective, principled, leadership. For successful leaders, defined purpose is the real source of their energy, focus and power. A leader’s creative spirit is renewed when they reconnect to their genuine professional and personal values, and to their unique talents. Purpose inspires their spirit to believe that their vision of the future is worthwhile and attainable. It enables them to articulate this vision clearly and passionately. It lets them explain complicated issues in simple terms, and then to address them easily. It inspires others to reach for their dreams too. These dreams ignite the spark of renewal that enables them to move towards the future they desire with optimism and confidence. Purpose gives them a new sense of control over their destiny. In recognizing their true talents and values, they gain the self-knowledge, the awareness, they need to be a purposeful leader.

Purposeful leaders are the antithesis of the stereo-typical executive who is driven, overbearing, and ruthless. The most successful shun the tyranny of ego in their quest for meaningful and truly rewarding professional careers and gratifying personal lives. They do not compromise their ethical standards for the sake of expediency or financial self-interest. They have learned the painful lessons of repeating the same actions over and over again, expecting a different result. Effective leaders stop the rush to activity; they distinguish the unimportant from the important and urgent. By being true to themselves and to others, they have the ability to inspire trust in their stakeholders (employees, bosses, board) to make manifest their vision of the future. Aristotle is reputed to have said: “Where the needs of the world and your talents cross, there lies your vocation.”

So why is purposeful leadership the focus of the Bonar Institute? In a word, it’s because successful leaders are purposeful leaders.

Director, Administration & Operations Appointed
