SPECIFIC
Ensure that your goals are targeted and clear-cut.
Ask yourself questions like:
- What am I trying to accomplish?
- Why is this goal important?
- What resources are required?
- Are their operational limits that need to be taken into account?
- Who is involved?
- If geography is involved, how does that come into play?
MEASURABLE
Establish measurable criteria with which to monitor your progress.
Ask yourself questions like:
- How much will it cost?
- How many hours will it take?
- How will you know when it is achieved?
- Can this goal be broken down into smaller pieces that are more easily attained?
ACHIEVABLE
Agree on attainable results.
Ask yourself questions like:
- Does this seem like a worthwhile task/project?
- How can this goal be accomplished?
- Is this goal a high priority?
- Am I (Is my team) the right fit to complete this goal?
RELEVANT
Agree on attainable results.
Ask yourself questions like:
- How committed are you to succeeding insofar as this goal is concerned?
- Is this the right time for this undertaking?
- Does this distract from other efforts?
- How realistic is this goal within the context of your current situation?
TIME
It is important to take time into account when setting goals.
Ask yourself questions like:
- When should we begin working towards the goal?
- When can this goal be realistically completed?
- What steps can I take towards completing this goal today… in 2 weeks… in 2 months?
